Israeli forces shot dead at least three Palestinians, including two Palestinian Authority (PA) military intelligence officers, during a raid on the occupied West Bank city of Jenin, Palestinian authorities said on Thursday.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health recognised the two officers as Adham Yasser Alawi (23) and Tayseer Issa (32). The third deceased was Jamil al-Amuri, who was detained in Israeli jails.
Another Palestinian official, Muhammad al-Bazour, 23, was critically wounded during the Israeli secret mission and was transported to an Israeli hospital.
An online video to which the Associated Press had access shows Palestinian officers hiding behind a vehicle while shots are listened in the background. One screams that they are returning fire with Israeli ‘undercover’ forces.
Al-Amuri was a former inmate and member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, but this has yet to be confirmed by Palestinian officials.
‘The understanding is that they (Israeli troops) were targeting at least one member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
“One man was killed in operation and another was injured and taken away by Israeli forces. “The man who was shot is a member of the PIJ,” Fawcett said.
According to reports, the second man taken away was a Palestinian man named Wissam Abu Zaid. He was apparently arrested during the operation.
Thousands of people took to the streets in Jenin city to take part in the Alawi funeral procession, as preparations for the funeral of the other two men were also dead.
There was also a call for a general strike in Palestinian villages.
An official for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas denounced what he called a “serious Israeli escalation” and said the three had been killed by Israeli special forces disguised as Palestinians during arrests.
The spokesman, Nabil Abu Rudaina, called on the global community and the United States to happen to stop such crimes.
