More than a dozen people were detained during anti-government protests in Israel on Saturday and one demonstrator died at a hospital after he was crushed by a car, police announced.
Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld stated that five of the arrests were conducted in Jerusalem, where protestors were obstructing roads. However., later the police updated the numbers and declared that over 20 people were arrested at the Paris Square protest in Jerusalem.
Meanwhile, police spokesman Mikhail Zingerman reported that 82-year-old protestors scummed to death on Saturday at a hospital in the city of Kiryat Ono in Tel Aviv after he was bumped by a car.
“The driver who hit down the man stopped at the scene and there is no indication that the accident was intended,” Zingerman stated.
Demonstrations calling on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to walk down continue to be held frequently on weekends, notwithstanding the coronavirus pandemic.
Protestors accuse Netanyahu of mishandling the coronavirus circumstances in Israel, which has resulted to an economic disaster in the country.
There are over 343,600 confirmed coronavirus cases in Israel as over 1500 new cases were recorded in just 24 hours and two deaths were also recorded in recent hours. While the total number of coronavirus related deaths in the country are 2,901.
The authorities in the country reopened schools in November the limitations on visiting beaches and parks were also lifted. Besides this, some stores and malls also remain open.
