At least four people have died after hundreds of President Donald Trump supporters violently invaded the US Capitol Building.

Washington, DC Police Chief Robert Conti said the deceased included a woman who was shot dead by the US Capitol Police on Wednesday, along with three others who died in a “medical emergency.”

Police said law enforcement agencies and Trump supporters deployed chemical hurdles during the Capitol building’s hour-long seizure, which was cleared on Wednesday evening. Police said they arrested 52 people in the wake of the scuffle.

The woman was shot first on Wednesday as the mob tried to break through the door of a barricade in the Capitol, where police on the other side were armed.

He was rushed to the hospital with gunfire and later died.

DC police officers also said two pipe bombs were recovered, one outside the Democratic National Committee and one outside the Republican National Committee.

Police found a vehicle carrying a long gun and a molotov cocktail on the Capitol grounds.

Conte said 14 officers of the Metropolitan Police Department were injured during the demonstrations, and at least two are being treated at a hospital.

Mayor Muriel Bajor said the curfew was in force in Washington, DC, from 6 pm EDT (23:00 GMT) to 6 am (11:00 GMT).

He extended the state of emergency for 15 days to ensure peace and security through the inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

Top White-House officials resign

Several officials have resigned from outgoing US President Donald Trump’s government in the furrow of the destruction that happened at Capitol Hill on Wednesday.

Other administrators are still considering whether to hand in their resignations, following unprecedented disturbances of pro-Trump supporters attacking the Capitol building as Congress began calculating Electoral College ballots to confirm President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.
