Tel Aviv: The first group of Filipino caregivers to Israel was sent by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) on Tuesday night.
Bernard Olalia, administrator of POEA, said the 48 workers arrived at the host country on Wednesday.
There are still 355 caregivers who will be leaving for Israel in the coming weeks.
“The deployment is in line with the existing bilateral labor agreement between the Philippines and Israel in 2018, which will provide enhanced protection and employment opportunities for Filipino caregivers,” Olalia said in a statement.
The agreement protects Filipino caregivers from paying exorbitant fees to private agencies, as the rent and deployment is under the government-to-government scheme.
The Filipino workers will provide expert care assistance to people with disabilities, including the elderly.
According to the POEA, the Population and Immigration Authority of Israel intends to recruit another 5,000 Filipinos.
