Two individuals were wounded on Monday night in Nahariya, Israel, after multiple rockets hit the city, Magen David Adom (MDA) reported.
The attack, which occurred amidst heightened tensions in the region, left a woman in her 70s in severe condition and a man in his 80s in light condition with an ear wound. Several other residents were treated for anxiety following the explosions.
The barrage, which was part of a larger escalation of hostilities, also caused significant damage to a building in the city. According to MDA, emergency medical teams swiftly responded to the scene, providing care to the injured and helping several others affected by the traumatic event.
Zaki Heller, an MDA spokesperson, confirmed the medical response: “MDA medics and paramedics are providing medical treatment to two wounded individuals: one in severe condition, one in mild condition, as well as several individuals suffering from anxiety.”
The rocket fire followed alerts in the Western Galilee area, where residents were urged to seek shelter. According to initial reports, some of the rockets were intercepted by the Israeli military, but others managed to strike the city, causing significant damage.
These developments came shortly after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that ten rockets fired from Lebanon had targeted the Western Galilee region.
Ronen Marli, the mayor of Nahariya, addressed the city’s residents, urging them to remain vigilant and follow safety instructions from the Home Front Command. He expressed concern for the continuing escalation, urging the public to avoid unnecessary travel during the next 48 hours.
“Residents of Nahariya, I ask you, we’ve just had a difficult night and it’s only starting. Another barrage, we have a direct hit on a building, one seriously injured, two others lightly injured, and several suffering from anxiety,” Marli said in his statement. “They’ve been evacuated, but I beg you, please follow the Home Front Command’s instructions.”
He emphasized the importance of staying indoors unless absolutely necessary, particularly for the elderly or those with health issues. “If you have no reason to be outside tomorrow and in the next 48 hours, don’t go outside! It will be tough, whether or not there is a ceasefire, these are complex days!” Marli added.
“If you must go outside and have an urgent matter to attend to – I ask you to follow the Home Front Command’s instructions even on the street. Sleep in protected rooms. If you must sleep in a shelter – sleep there. I hope these days pass as best as possible. Please stick to the Home Front Command’s guidelines – they save lives!”
The Israeli military has been closely monitoring the situation, as tensions along the Lebanese border remain high. The rocket attack is one of the latest developments in an ongoing period of instability in the region, where military operations have intensified in recent weeks.
While the immediate threat to Nahariya has passed, the city remains on edge, with authorities urging continued adherence to safety protocols. The situation underscores the vulnerability of communities in the Western Galilee, which have been facing increasing threats from cross-border rocket fire.
As of now, authorities are working to assess the full extent of the damage and ensure that affected residents receive the support they need during this difficult time.
