Three individuals were arrested by Border Police officers in the West Bank on Wednesday after they were seen flying a Hamas flag and voicing support for terrorists during the release of Palestinian prisoners.

The event was part of a deal involving hostages and a ceasefire agreement, which saw the release of prisoners tied to security-related offenses. Police reported that the suspects also disrupted public order by celebrating the return of the prisoners.

The release of prisoners is a key element of the ceasefire deal, with 583 prisoners having been freed so far. Border Police and security forces swiftly intervened to prevent any celebrations or activities that could lead to further disruptions.

Police emphasized their zero-tolerance approach toward any actions that could jeopardize public safety or security.

“The suspects were involved in disturbing public order and voiced support for terrorists. Our forces acted immediately to prevent any disorder,” said Brik Yitzhak, head of the Border Police.

He also stressed that the Israeli authorities would continue to monitor the released prisoners closely, with a clear message to those who might attempt to return to terrorism: “Anyone who does so will face the full force of Israel’s security forces.”

Authorities have underscored their commitment to working closely with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the Israel Prison Service, and the Shin Bet to maintain order in the region during such sensitive events. The release of prisoners, which has been met with mixed reactions, remains a contentious issue in the ongoing conflict.

The Border Police’s actions reflect the broader tension in the West Bank and Israel, where the dynamics of security measures and the release of prisoners are tightly linked to the ongoing political and military struggles.

This latest incident highlights the challenges faced by Israeli security forces in maintaining order amid volatile situations involving Palestinian prisoners and supporters of groups like Hamas.

As part of the ongoing efforts to stabilize the region, Israel has pledged to monitor the activities of the released prisoners and enforce strict measures against anyone who re-engages in militant activity.

The arrest of the three individuals is part of a broader effort by Israeli forces to prevent further destabilization and ensure that any disturbances are quickly dealt with.

The situation at the Ofer Prison, near Jerusalem, where the prisoners were released, has been closely monitored by the Israeli military and law enforcement.

The presence of a Red Cross vehicle near the prison on January 19, 2025, underscores the high level of international attention surrounding the prisoner release and the ongoing security measures in place.

The Red Cross and other international bodies have been involved in monitoring the conditions of detainees and prisoners as part of the broader humanitarian efforts.

The release of prisoners and the celebrations that sometimes accompany it continue to be a flashpoint in the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with each move carefully scrutinized by both sides.
