Tel Aviv – The Israeli Navy has successfully conducted an operational test launch of the Gabriel 5 sea-to-sea missile, marking a significant advancement in Israel’s maritime strike capabilities, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Thursday.

The test, carried out by the Israeli Navy’s Missile Ship Flotilla in collaboration with the Defense Ministry’s Directorate of Defense Research and Development (DDR&D) and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), involved launching the advanced missile at a vessel simulating an enemy ship.

According to the IDF, the missile system performed flawlessly, successfully detecting and engaging its target under simulated combat conditions. The exercise was designed to replicate real-world threats, ensuring the Navy’s preparedness for potential conflicts at sea.

Enhancing Israel’s Maritime Dominance

Military officials emphasized the importance of this test in bolstering Israel’s naval capabilities. The Gabriel 5 missile, known for its precision and advanced strike capabilities, plays a crucial role in the Navy’s offensive arsenal.

Brigadier General Yehuda Almakias, head of the Research and Development Unit at the DDR&D, praised the test as a “remarkable success,” adding that it enhances Israel’s ability to protect its maritime interests and critical infrastructure.

“The operational test launch was a remarkable success and provides the Israeli Navy with greater operational freedom. It strengthens Israel’s maritime offensive capabilities, ensuring continued development, the protection of its assets and infrastructure, and most importantly—the security of its citizens,” Almakias stated.

Captain A., head of the Israeli Navy’s Weapons Department, highlighted the significance of the test in maintaining Israel’s technological and military edge in maritime operations.

“The success of this test marks a significant advancement in the Israeli Navy’s offensive capabilities, enabling us to better counter maritime threats. The Israeli Navy will continue developing and enhancing both offensive and defensive capabilities to maintain maritime superiority and ensure the security of Israel’s citizens,” he said.

A Leap Forward in Naval Warfare Technology

Developed by Israel Aerospace Industries, the Gabriel 5 missile is one of the most advanced naval strike systems in the world. Its precision targeting and ability to adapt to evolving combat scenarios make it a critical asset for Israel’s naval defense strategy.

Boaz Levy, CEO of Israel Aerospace Industries, lauded the missile’s successful test launch, reaffirming IAI’s commitment to equipping the Israeli military with cutting-edge technology.

“Israel Aerospace Industries is proud to be a partner in the achievements led by the DDR&D and the Israeli Navy in developing the Gabriel 5, the most advanced naval strike system of its kind,” Levy said.

“The Gabriel 5 missile, developed by IAI, followed its planned trajectory with precision and successfully struck its target exactly as intended.
