Taibe, Israel – Israeli security forces arrested a 21-year-old Israeli-Arab resident of Taibe, Kamal Nashaf, on suspicion of providing security information to Hamas operatives in the West Bank, the Israel Police and Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) announced on Thursday.
The investigation revealed that Nashaf had pledged allegiance to ISIS and was consuming ISIS-related content on social media since the summer of 2024.
Authorities stated that he had contacted individuals linked to the terrorist group and considered himself an active part of it. Officials also reported that Nashaf possessed items associated with ISIS.
Espionage for Hamas and Surveillance of Security Forces
According to the Shin Bet, Nashaf photographed Israeli security forces traveling to Tulkarm in the West Bank and transferred the footage via Telegram to Hamas-affiliated operatives in the area. His actions were allegedly motivated by a desire to avenge Israeli military operations in Gaza.
The Shin Bet and Israel Police emphasized that Nashaf’s activities posed a significant security risk, as his intelligence-sharing efforts could have been used to plan attacks against Israeli forces.
Heightened Security Concerns
Authorities have expressed concern over the growing threat of radicalization among individuals consuming extremist propaganda online. The arrest comes amid heightened tensions in the region, with security forces increasing efforts to thwart potential attacks linked to Hamas and ISIS.
“The Shin Bet and Israel Police will continue to act resolutely against anyone who cooperates with terrorist organizations and against those who adopt the ideology of ISIS,” the agencies said in a statement.
Nashaf is expected to face charges related to espionage, aiding a terrorist organization, and affiliations with an outlawed group. His arrest underscores the persistent threats posed by radicalized individuals operating within Israel.
