HOLON, ISRAEL – June 21, 2025 — Shrapnel from an intercepted Iranian missile ignited a fire on the roof of a three-story apartment building in the central Israeli city of Holon on Saturday morning, as tensions remain high following a series of missile barrages targeting Israel.

According to the Israel Fire and Rescue Service, the blaze broke out shortly after the missile was intercepted by Israeli defense systems, causing debris to fall on residential areas. The fire, which started on the rooftop of the building, was swiftly brought under control by emergency teams. No injuries have been reported.

All residents of the affected building were safely evacuated. Magen David Adom (MDA), Israel’s national emergency medical service, confirmed that their medics were dispatched to the scene. “Residents quickly left the building, and at this time, we are thankful to report no casualties,” said an MDA spokesperson.

The Saturday morning incident comes just hours after a separate barrage of rockets struck Israel on Friday, injuring over 30 people in the northern city of Haifa.

That attack, believed to be coordinated by Iranian-backed forces, marked one of the heaviest missile strikes in recent months. Additional reports of missile impacts were received from Beersheba and parts of central Israel.

Walla News, citing fire and rescue officials, reported that firefighting units had successfully contained the Holon blaze within an hour. Emergency responders remained on-site for cooling operations and to ensure no secondary fires erupted due to lingering heat or embers.

Meanwhile, in another development, debris from a misfired Israeli interceptor rocket reportedly landed near the city of Rosh Ha’Ayin in central Israel.

The remains of the interceptor were found early Saturday morning, and images released by the Fire and Rescue Service showed scorched vegetation and a partial crater near a residential area. No injuries were reported in that incident either.

The Iranian missile launches mark a sharp escalation in regional hostilities, prompting Israel’s Iron Dome and other air defense systems to engage in multiple intercept operations over the past 48 hours. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that several incoming threats were neutralized before reaching densely populated areas.

Local authorities in Holon and Rosh Ha’Ayin have advised residents to remain alert and to follow emergency instructions issued by the Home Front Command. “We are dealing with a volatile situation,” a senior fire official told reporters. “Civilians should remain vigilant and seek shelter when sirens are activated.”

In light of the ongoing threat, schools in central and northern Israel have been closed for the weekend, and public events have been postponed. The IDF is reportedly evaluating further defense responses and has placed several units on heightened alert.

The missile strikes follow a month of increasing hostilities between Israel and Iran, with several proxy skirmishes taking place across the region. While diplomatic efforts have been ongoing to de-escalate the situation, Saturday’s events underscore the fragility of the current security environment.

Israeli officials have not yet commented on potential retaliatory actions but have reiterated their commitment to protecting civilians and maintaining national security.
