RISHON LEZION – A 14-year-old girl died, and a 12-year-old girl remains in critical condition after both fell from the roof of an abandoned building in Rishon Lezion, according to a statement released Sunday by Shamir Medical Center.
Magen David Adom (MDA) reported that the two girls sustained severe multi-system injuries. Emergency medical teams rushed to the scene following reports of the fall. Upon arrival, paramedics found both victims unconscious.
“This is a very serious incident. The two girls suffered very serious multi-system injuries and were unconscious,” an MDA paramedic said.
“We provided them with medical treatment and evacuated them in MDA intensive care vehicles to the hospital. One of them was in critical condition and we performed CPR on her, while the other was in serious condition,” he added.
The older girl was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital, while the younger girl was placed on a ventilator and remains under intensive care.
Police confirmed that the incident occurred at an abandoned building, with the girls allegedly falling from the roof. Early findings suggest that the event is not suspected to involve criminal activity, but an official investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances leading to the fall.
Local authorities have urged residents, especially children and teenagers, to avoid entering abandoned or structurally unsafe buildings, which pose significant safety risks.
In a separate incident on Sunday, Magen David Adom reported another severe fall in Jerusalem involving a two-year-old child. The toddler fell through a stairwell safety railing from the second floor of a residential building, according to emergency responders.
“We arrived at the stairwell and saw the agitated neighbors holding a two-year-old baby who was unconscious,” said an MDA paramedic. “They told us that she fell through the safety railing on the second floor. We began providing first aid on the spot and evacuated him to the hospital in serious condition,” he added.
The child was rushed to Shaare Zedek Medical Center, where doctors are fighting to stabilize his condition. Israel Police have opened an investigation into the Jerusalem incident as well.
Both cases have prompted renewed calls for enhanced safety measures around residential and abandoned buildings to prevent further tragedies. Community leaders and safety experts emphasize the importance of maintaining secure barriers in residential complexes and restricting access to unsafe properties.
These back-to-back incidents have shocked local communities, drawing attention to the risks posed by unsupervised areas and the importance of child and teen safety awareness. Police investigations into both events remain ongoing.
