HOD HASHARON — Sharon Region Police are actively searching for a suspect involved in an attempted kidnapping in Hod Hasharon, Israeli media reported Wednesday night. The suspect reportedly tried to force a young girl into the trunk of his car on Sokolov Street.
Witnesses intervened, chasing off the attacker and preventing the abduction. Police said the suspect had attempted to target multiple young women in the city earlier, highlighting a broader threat to public safety.
The suspect is described as Arabic-speaking and driving a white Tesla. Authorities have reportedly identified him as a resident from northern Israel. The man is also alleged to have attacked several civilians in the North prior to the Hod Hasharon incident.
Mayor Amir Kochavi addressed the incident, emphasizing the psychological dimension of the attack. “From tests conducted since the incident, the police estimate that the event was psychological, following a similar disturbance within the suspect’s family earlier today. We are working to reach him quickly,” Kochavi said.
Kochavi praised the vigilance of local residents who intervened during the attack. “I want to praise the vigilance of the girls and the residents who kept the attacker away and contacted the police,” he said. The mayor also encouraged citizens to contact both the municipal hotline and the police 100 hotline to facilitate rapid response.
Authorities stressed that the Welfare Department and the Educational Psychological Service are available to provide support for anyone affected by the incident. Residents are advised to seek assistance through the municipal hotline.
Police have increased patrols across Hod Hasharon and surrounding areas to locate the suspect. Officers are working with municipal security teams and other local authorities to ensure public safety.
The suspect’s reported attacks in northern Israel are under investigation, with authorities examining whether the incidents are connected and if the suspect poses a continuing threat.
The Hod Hasharon community has expressed relief that the immediate attack was prevented. Residents highlighted the importance of civic vigilance and rapid communication with law enforcement during emergencies.
Authorities continue to advise caution, asking residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activity immediately. The manhunt is ongoing, and police have appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the suspect’s capture.
The incident has sparked discussions about local security measures and the need for heightened awareness, particularly around public spaces where young women are vulnerable to targeted attacks.
Police reaffirmed that apprehending the suspect is a top priority, and the community is urged to cooperate while maintaining personal safety. Updates on the situation will be provided as investigations progress.
