Ex-IDF Brigadier General Oren Solomon has publicly accused the Israel Defense Forces of covering up critical findings related to the October 7 Nova music festival attacks. Speaking at a commemorative ceremony, Solomon claimed the investigation conducted under former IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Herzi Halevi was deliberately suppressed.
“Halevi called me into his office as part of the Nova investigations,” Solomon said. “I presented him with the draft report and told him that the investigation would not give the Israeli people the answers they deserve. I told him the IDF is covering up the investigations, undermining public and commanders’ trust.”
Solomon revealed that after sending a letter with his comments on the investigation, Halevi ordered an inquiry into him. He described this investigation as baseless, overreaching, and intended to neutralize him in the future. “They succeeded in intimidating senior officers, but eventually everyone came forward,” he added.
The retired general recounted how investigators raided his home in front of his children, confiscated media devices, and summoned him for questioning. He also shared harrowing personal details about the day of the attacks, explaining that he and his son fought for ten hours. “My son left his ten-month-old daughter at home, and he is not even a combat soldier,” Solomon said.
Solomon, who led the Gaza Division’s debriefings following October 7, claimed that the investigation into him was “tainted from start to finish by the military prosecution.” He described the experience as an attempt to neutralize a senior officer and labeled it a national scandal. He noted that despite requesting a polygraph test the same day, he had to wait three months to take it.
The retired brigadier general called on current IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir to intervene. “There is severe harm being done to IDF soldiers and a devastating blow to IDF commanders. Every officer in the IDF should know: do not tell the truth, especially if it harms the IDF,” Solomon said.
He concluded with a stark warning about the military culture, emphasizing that the IDF may support soldiers in battle but turns against them when they speak the truth. His statements shed new light on the controversies surrounding the handling of the Nova Festival attacks and the broader military investigation process.
