The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) has officially phased in its new “Bar” guided rocket system, marking a significant upgrade in its artillery capabilities.

This replacement for the decade-old “Romach” rocket promises to enhance operational precision and effectiveness in targeting enemy positions.

The IDF announced the rollout of the Bar rocket on Tuesday, underscoring its advanced features and greater operational range.

The Romach rockets, which have been in service for the past ten years, were known for their ability to strike targets up to 35 kilometers away with an accuracy range of under ten meters.

While effective, these rockets now give way to the Bar, produced by Elbit Systems, which boasts significant improvements in both range and precision.

The Bar rocket is designed to reach even greater distances with a more sophisticated navigation system. This enhanced system ensures that the Bar is more adaptable to various combat environments, offering a higher level of accuracy and efficiency.

The IDF has emphasized that the primary advantage of guided rockets, such as the Bar, lies in their ability to strike specific targets with precision, minimizing collateral damage while maximizing impact.

Captain S., the commander of a battery in Battalion 334 of the 282nd Division, provided insight into how the Bar system improves operations on the ground. “Guided rockets are designed for precise target strikes,” she explained.

“Take, for example, a soldier in the Gaza Strip who spots a terrorist with an anti-tank missile in a building. From the moment he contacts us, within about seven minutes, a rocket hits that exact point with minimal deviation.”

This capability is crucial in modern warfare, where minimizing civilian casualties and collateral damage is paramount. The Bar rocket’s effectiveness was demonstrated in August when it became operational and was first used in real combat scenarios.

Captain S. recalled her first deployment of the Bar during an operation against Hezbollah terror targets in southern Lebanon.

During these operations, the Bar rockets successfully destroyed various Hezbollah infrastructure, including observation posts, anti-tank positions, and weapons depots.

“We fired at Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon and successfully destroyed observation posts, anti-tank positions, weapons depots, and other terrorist infrastructure,” Captain S. stated.

“It was a historic moment. Not everyone gets the chance to introduce a new weapon into operational use in the IDF, and we had the privilege of making history twice—operating the first ‘Bar’ rockets and carrying out the first rocket strike against terrorist targets in Lebanon since 2006.”

The Bar rocket’s integration into the IDF’s arsenal is seen as a major step forward in Israel’s military capabilities.

It is expected to play a pivotal role in future operations, providing Israeli forces with a more advanced and reliable tool for countering threats with minimal risk to civilians.

This launch further solidifies the IDF’s commitment to advancing its technological edge, ensuring that it remains at the forefront of precision warfare.

As the Bar guided rocket continues to be deployed across various military divisions, the IDF looks to maintain its strategic advantage in the region, enhancing the effectiveness of its artillery forces.
