Jerusalem – The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) successfully foiled a major terrorist attack involving a 100-kilogram bomb in the northern West Bank town of Kabatiya, the military announced on Tuesday.
As part of a counterterrorism operation, Nahal Brigade troops carried out a mission under the guidance of Shin Bet, targeting terrorist infrastructure in the region.
Soldiers searched dozens of suspected sites, dismantled high-powered explosive devices, seized illegal weapons, and arrested 15 suspected terrorists, the IDF reported.
Escalating Counterterrorism Efforts
This latest operation comes amid heightened security efforts by Israel to curb terrorist activities in the West Bank.
Earlier this month, the Israeli Air Force conducted an airstrike on a terror cell traveling in a vehicle in Kabatiya as part of Operation Iron Wall, the ongoing Israeli military campaign aimed at neutralizing terrorist threats in the region.
During the latest raid, IDF forces uncovered a particularly powerful improvised explosive device (IED), which was subsequently destroyed in a controlled detonation.
The IDF released footage documenting the destruction of the device and the apprehension of the suspects involved.
Defense Minister Vows Continued Operations
Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, reaffirmed the country’s commitment to ensuring security, stating on Sunday that Israel would not allow large numbers of Palestinian civilians to return to villages where terrorist activity is suspected.
Katz also indicated that the IDF would maintain a long-term presence in key locations such as parts of Jenin, an area known for harboring terrorist groups, where Israeli forces have not conducted extended operations in decades.
Bus Bombing Attempts Spark Heightened Security Measures
Israeli authorities have also ramped up security following a series of attempted bus bombings in Bat Yam last week.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed the Israel Police and Shin Bet to intensify preventive measures in major cities, aiming to avert further attacks.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Netanyahu emphasized the need for proactive security enforcement, ordering security forces to increase surveillance and intelligence operations across the country.
“We will act with full force to prevent terror attacks before they happen and to strike terrorist operatives wherever they may be,” Netanyahu said.
In response to the escalating threats, the IDF has been carrying out an intensified crackdown on terrorist hotspots in the West Bank, particularly in areas where terrorist networks are believed to be operating.
Officials suggest that these operations will continue for the foreseeable future to dismantle terror cells and prevent further attacks.
Ongoing Tensions in the Region
The recent developments highlight the growing security concerns in Israel and the West Bank. The Israeli military has warned of an uptick in attempted attacks by Palestinian militant groups, particularly as tensions remain high in the region.
With operations such as the one in Kabatiya, Israel aims to dismantle terrorist networks before they can carry out large-scale attacks.
As security forces remain on high alert, Israeli officials have reiterated their commitment to neutralizing terrorist threats while maintaining national security.
