Israeli Women’s Advancement and Social Equality Minister May Golan strongly criticized UN Women on Tuesday, accusing the organization of failing to acknowledge the sexual violence committed by Hamas against Israeli women during the October 7 attacks.
Speaking at a session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, Golan denounced the international body’s response as “selective blindness” and accused it of excusing the suffering of Israeli victims.
“I am here today for the victims whose suffering you found justifications for, simply because it did not fit your narrative,” she stated.
Golan condemned what she described as the UN’s indifference to the brutal sexual violence Israeli women endured at the hands of Hamas terrorists. She accused the organization of prioritizing political considerations over the protection of victims, regardless of their nationality or religion.
“We won’t beg your useless councils for help; we will shield our own,” she declared. “We will protect our own because no one else will.”

Her impassioned speech took a confrontational turn when she accused UN officials of acting as “spokespeople for gang rapists” and “advocating for terrorists.” She then declared, “From the river to the sea, Jewish women will be free,” a rephrasing of a slogan often associated with pro-Palestinian movements.
