Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) troops, acting on intelligence provided by the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency), arrested three individuals suspected of carrying out a grenade attack that wounded two soldiers in Tubas, in the northern West Bank, on Saturday.
The military confirmed the arrests on Friday, detailing that the operation was conducted by the Menashe Brigade in coordination with Shin Bet units. According to the IDF, the suspects were identified and detained during a series of raids aimed at dismantling networks involved in attacks against Israeli forces.
During the raid in Tubas, troops reportedly erected engineering blockades, conducted interrogations, and removed signs promoting incitement to terrorism. The suspects were questioned at the scene, where they allegedly admitted to throwing the grenade. Military investigators later revealed that the explosive was a self-made, improvised device.
Two soldiers sustained injuries in the attack, which took place while they were on a routine patrol in the area. Both were evacuated for medical treatment, and their condition was described as stable.
The incident underscores the continuing volatility across parts of the West Bank, where clashes between Israeli troops and Palestinian militants have intensified in recent months. Security forces have increased their operations in the region amid a surge in attacks targeting Israeli personnel and checkpoints.
In a statement issued following the incident, Hamas praised the attack, framing it as an act of resistance against Israeli occupation.
“The operation that directly targeted a foot patrol of the Zionist occupation army with a locally made explosive device confirms that the resistance in the West Bank will not be broken,” the group declared.
Hamas further lauded the perpetrators, stating, “We salute the heroes of the resistance who stand firm despite all difficulties. These operations express our people’s anger and rejection of the occupation’s repressive policies.”
The IDF noted that the investigation remains ongoing, with further arrests possible as intelligence units continue to track those responsible for supplying and assembling the explosive device.
Security tensions have remained high across the northern West Bank, particularly in and around Tubas, Jenin, and Nablus, where Israeli operations frequently encounter armed resistance.
The Israeli military reaffirmed its commitment to continue “precise and proactive” measures aimed at preventing future attacks and dismantling terror infrastructure in the area.
Authorities said additional forces would remain deployed in the region to ensure stability and to deter further assaults on Israeli troops operating in the West Bank.
