Amsterdam — Following last night’s attacks in Amsterdam, the Israeli Foreign Ministry has reported that it is still unable to establish contact with approximately 10 Israeli nationals.
While the Ministry does not consider these individuals “missing,” it suspects that their phones may have been stolen, damaged, or otherwise rendered inoperable during the chaotic events that unfolded in the Dutch capital.
The Ministry emphasized that the lack of communication with these individuals is likely due to issues with their phones rather than any confirmed disappearance.
Officials believe that many of those affected might have lost access to their devices in the assault’s aftermath, leaving them unable to check in with family members or the authorities.
“We are not considering these individuals missing at this time,” a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said. “However, as the situation remains fluid, we are making every effort to reach out to them and confirm their safety. This is a preliminary list, and it may still change as we gather more information.”
Efforts Underway to Contact Those Affected
Since the attacks, the Ministry has mobilized its resources, contacting relevant Dutch authorities, and coordinating with Israeli families in an effort to locate and confirm the wellbeing of the affected individuals.
The Israeli Embassy in the Netherlands has also been actively involved in tracking down and communicating with local officials to gather as much information as possible about the attacks and any Israeli nationals who may have been caught up in the violence.
The spokesperson also clarified that this is a challenging process, given that the list of Israelis who have not made contact is incomplete.
“This is an evolving list, and changes could occur as we continue our efforts to contact these individuals or as they themselves regain access to communication,” the spokesperson added.
Concern Among Families Back Home
In Israel, family members and friends of the individuals who have yet to make contact remain anxious, hoping for confirmation of their loved ones’ safety.
However, Ministry officials urge families to remain calm and patient, stressing that many people in Amsterdam were likely caught off-guard and have lost access to their personal belongings.
The Ministry is providing updates as it receives information from Dutch authorities and, if necessary, will dispatch additional personnel to Amsterdam to aid in the efforts.
A Broader Concern Over Recent Violence
The attacks in Amsterdam last night have sparked concerns among Israeli citizens traveling abroad. Although Amsterdam is generally regarded as a safe travel destination, recent incidents of violence have highlighted the potential risks for tourists and locals alike.
Israeli authorities have noted an uptick in concerns from citizens traveling to Europe, urging travelers to remain vigilant and keep their families informed of their whereabouts whenever possible.
Israel’s Response Moving Forward
While the situation regarding the missing Israelis is expected to be resolved as communication lines are restored, the Israeli government is taking these incidents seriously and is evaluating measures to enhance the safety of its citizens traveling abroad.
This could include increasing consular support in cities where Israelis frequently visit and issuing travel advisories if necessary.
Israeli officials are closely monitoring developments in Amsterdam and surrounding areas, assessing the need for further assistance to both those affected by the attacks and the broader Israeli community in the Netherlands.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry has assured the public that all available resources are being directed toward locating these individuals and assisting their families, as it works with local authorities to resolve the matter.
Meanwhile, updates will continue to be provided as more information becomes available and as efforts to re-establish contact with those on the list progress.
