Gaza City – Hamas has executed individuals accused of espionage in areas of the Gaza Strip where its top officials have been targeted, sources within the terror group told Saudi-owned news outlet Asharq Al-Awsat on Friday.

The reported executions come as Israel intensifies its targeted strikes against Hamas leadership and infrastructure. According to the sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, the executions followed so-called “revolutionary courts” conducted by Hamas.

“Those who were proven to be guilty of espionage have already been executed, while investigations are still ongoing with others,” one source reportedly stated.

The crackdown on suspected informants comes as the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have ramped up their operations in Gaza, eliminating key Hamas leaders.

Since the resumption of fighting on March 18, the IDF has killed 150 terrorists, including 10 senior Hamas officials, in a series of airstrikes and targeted operations, The Jerusalem Post reported.

Targeted Assassinations of Hamas Leaders

Among the high-ranking Hamas figures confirmed killed in Israeli strikes are:

  • Abdel Latif al-Qanou – Hamas spokesman

  • Issam al-Da’alis – Hamas’s political prime minister in Gaza

  • Mahmoud Abu Watfa – Director-General of Hamas’s Interior Ministry and security forces

  • Bahjat Abu Sultan – Operational chief of Hamas’s internal security apparatus

  • Ahmed Omar al-Hatta – Hamas justice minister

The loss of these leaders has reportedly shaken Hamas’s ability to govern and coordinate its operations in Gaza.

Heightened Security Measures and Israeli Intelligence Efforts

A Hamas source cited in Asharq Al-Awsat acknowledged the impact of Israel’s targeted killings, stating that “at the political, military, and governmental levels, and since the escalation of attacks, more stringent security measures have been implemented.”

The source also claimed that “Israel intensified its intelligence efforts during the ceasefire,” using various technological means, including surveillance, tracking, and eavesdropping on key individuals.

Additionally, Hamas believes that Israel gained valuable intelligence during the hostage release process, which was part of the ceasefire negotiations.

The public parades of hostages upon their release reportedly allowed Israeli intelligence to monitor Hamas officials and gather crucial data on their whereabouts and operational structures.

Growing Internal Pressure on Hamas

The reported execution of suspected informants reflects growing paranoia within Hamas as Israeli operations continue to weaken its command structure.

The group has historically cracked down on suspected collaborators, often carrying out public executions to send a message of deterrence.

With Israeli forces maintaining pressure through air and ground operations, Hamas’s leadership faces increasing difficulty in maintaining control over the enclave.

The latest round of executions signals the group’s efforts to fortify internal security, even as its ability to retaliate against Israel remains significantly diminished.

As the conflict persists, the execution of alleged informants and the continued targeting of Hamas’s leadership indicate an evolving battle both on the ground and within the group itself.
