US: We are told that five people died in the DC riot. Sometimes seven deaths are related to the riot. But here’s the truth, as far as we’re officially told:
Of seven deaths, two were officers who committed suicide after the riot. We never gave evidence or reason to believe that their suicides had anything to do with the riot. This is simply an assumption that many have made.
Of the five who died in or shortly after the riot, one was a man with a condition who had already had a heart attack. Another suffered a stroke that day and died in hospital.
One woman collapsed while she was in a rush of people outside the Capitol and died. We were told that she was ‘trampled to death.’ The medical examiner never confirmed this as the cause of death. We have not received any additional information.
The fourth civilian death was Ashli Babbitt. She was an unarmed woman who was shot dead by a Capitol police officer in Capitol.
The fifth dead was Officer Sicknick. We gave absolutely no official information about his death. The only thing they tell us is that he was at the riot and later died. The autopsy results are withheld. No one was arrested for his murder.
Thus, out of the five deaths associated with the riot, only one – Babbit – can definitely be considered a death caused by violence during the riot. A policeman did only the violence in this case. This is what we know now. If anyone knows more, they do not tell us.
Does it matter? Yes, because the truth matters. Also because the character’s deadly riot ‘is how it justifies the military occupation of DC. People died. This is tragic. But the how and the why are really important.
